Dierker’s Champs

The Cypress Mudcats are excited to introduce you to our new team. We are now part of Dierker’s Champs (www.dierkerschamps.com).

Under the direction of former Houston Astros All-Star pitcher and manager, Larry Dierker, this new team will help us better achieve our goal to provide the best baseball instruction possible in a family friendly, positive environment.

After a great year of fun, our organization is growing fast and we look forward to great things to come!

Go Mudcats!!

Congratulations to both Mudcats Teams!

The 8u team finished the season with a record of 4-7.   Their record is a little deceptive as they played the undefeated and eventual championship team three time during the season, giving them a good scare in the playoff game.   The boys showed great improvement throughout the year, and with a few breaks in the playoffs, they easily could have made a run at any team in the league. Good job boys!

The 6u team finished the regular season with record of 7-1-2.  A heartbreaking loss to the Colt 45s in the final game of the season preventing an undefeated regular season. But, with a strong 22-16 win over the #2 seeded Diamondback last night, they earned a rematch with the Colt 45s in the championship game on Saturday. Being a team with ten 5-year-olds and one 6-year-old, it has been a blast to watch their success against the older teams.

All Mudcats fans are invited to come cheer on the little Mudcats as they go for the championship on Saturday!

Also, notice the address and map is posted on each game in case you are unfamiliar with the CFSA fields.

Good luck to both Mudcat teams this Saturday in opening day action!

Making the Game Fun!

One of our core values as a developing baseball organization is that the game should always be fun!  It’s a game after all!  It baffles me that youth league coaches can get so rapped  up in their desire to win, that the kids can actually lose the fun of the game.  The best way to help young players excel in baseball (or anything else for that matter) is to help them grow to love the game and love excelling at the game.  “The Coach”, Bruce Lambin puts it this way:

“What motivates players to excel?  In some instances they are playing to please Dad….but in the long run, playing to just please Dad’s expectations will seldom provide sufficient drive to truly excel and resentment may be the final result.   Then there are the immediate goals such as making the All Star team, making the HS team, varsity, getting a college scholarship or signing pro. These are often fueled by delusions and if not attained can result in reactions of failure and hostility towards the game.  [Because, in large part, this is out of their control]

So what is the answer? What should motivate a player to excel? He must want to strive to be the best that he can be because he loves playing the game and because he will enjoy the game more by playing better….

Motivation to have more success/fun plus perspiration from working to be the best that he can be, he can control. Tomorrow he will get to play another game, prepared for more success/fun.

One of our goals as an organization is to help your son learn the game of baseball and learn to love the game.  You can play a big part in that simply by playing catch, going to a high school, college game or pro game and creating experiences that instill a love of the game.  And, if they find they love something other than baseball…then go do that.  Teach them to do what they love and do it to the best of their ability!  As parents, we need to help our kids discover the passion that their creator put in them for whatever they do.  In the process, we can build healthy relationship with them and help them grow into healthy adults, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

See you on the field!

As part of our arrangement for getting regular field time we need to be part of occasional work days to maintain the Cy-Fair field.  The next field work day is: Sept. 11.  We will begin at 8am and work until approximately noon or whenever we finish.  This is the field behind Cy-Fair High School.

Fall Ball

Hello Everyone,

It’s almost time for Fall Baseball and I know all of you are just as excited as I am!  Just sending this out as a reminder and to also find out who is still interested in playing fall ball this season.  We need to get a preliminary head count as we will probably be adding a few players. I will be taking over as head coach for the 8u Mudcats as Coach Ray will be Managing both teams as well as handling Head Coaching duties of the  6u Mudcats who just finished playing Summer League (no rest for the little Mudcats LOL) but we will be working together to coordinate practices and the overall direction of the Cypress Mudcats organization.  We really look forward to building on all of our progress from last season and hope that everyone in the Mudcat family feels the same way.  As always we welcome any and all help and input from the parents without which the Mudcats would not exist.  Let’s make this season a great season.

Coach Randy
